A big thanks to all of the brilliant artists, venue managers and art lovers who helped to make JUE 2010 a great success.
18 gigs, 25 art exhibitions, and a truckload of workshops, parties and film screenings later...our heads are spinning, but in a good way.
All good things must come to an end, but we'll be back with JUE 2011. In the meantime, sign up to receive updates on Split Works' events.
Love,
Split Works

Yo Party People and Culture Vultures!
A big thanks to everyone who's come out to the JUE gigs, parties and exhibitions so far. Lots more events this week and we hope you're as excited about them as we are! There are too many events to mention in this space, so we recommend you check out the schedule of events to see what's on the slate for this week. In Shanghai, we're particularly excited about Friday's party @ Shelter, with JD Twitch from Optimo, Jay.Soul and Fish. AND we've just added Baijiu Robot to the bill for a bit of late-night madness.
As for Beijing, we've got the immensely talented and charming Julie Doiron leading a songwriting workshop this Friday afternoon as part of the Beijing Bookworm festival.
See you out and about!

"A mighty thanks to all you Beijingers who came out to our opening bash at D22 on Thursday. We're now embarking on a jam-packed opening weekend.
If you're in Beijing, come out and join us for Dead Elvis, Rustic and The Molds on Friday at D-22, or St. Vincent and Zhang Qianqian at Yugong Yishan on the same night. Or we dare you to try to make it to both! And you won't want to miss the Deploy/Disarm opening party at CNEX Salon on Saturday. The party starts at 5 pm, and marks the opening of a joint exhibition from Winnie Sidhartha and Matt Lu, and the evening will also include a screening of the documentary "Hip Hop Storm" (at 7 pm) and a live set from John Jamison (9 pm). Good times!
And for you Shanghai people, we've got back to back shows at Yuyintang: Hanggai on Friday and St. Vincent on Saturday. Not to mention Nini Sum's screenprinting workshop on Saturday at 3 pm, and Island6's Libido,Mortido opening party on Saturday at 8pm. Get out there and have a ball!"

JUE 2010 is shaping up to be massive, with over 70 events from film screenings to drama performances to photography exhibitions to workshops and lecture series. Not to mention live performances from some very talented musicians from Hebei, Guangzhou, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, Canada, Holland, Iceland, the UK and the US.
We're not looking to clog up your inbox with all the JUE news. To stay up to date on the latest JUEvelopments, follow us on Twitter ( @juefestival), on our Sina microblog, or go ahead and sign up for our newsletter (we promise not to spam you).
And the Sonicbids winner is:
We teamed up with Planetary Group and US-based artist-promoter matchmaking service Sonicbids to arrange an all-expenses paid, 6-city China tour for one artist. There were no barriers to entry – anyone from anywhere in the world could apply.
We sifted through an extraordinary 773 applications, and in the end we chose Icelandic experimental composer and neo-classical multi-instrumentalist, Ólafur Arnalds. Our mandate was simple - to choose a band/ artist that is well-positioned musically to use the Sonicbids tour as an entry into the China-market, an artist that really had a "fit" with China and that, at the same time, would bring something new to the audiences of this country. Ólafur meets all these criteria in spades, not to mention that his music is gorgeous. Sigur Rós were well ahead of the curve when they invited Ólafur to open for them on their summer 2008 European tour.
Confirmed Ólafur Arnalds Tourdates (additional dates TBA):
March 24 - Taipei - The Wall
March 26 - Hong Kong - Backstage Live, 300 HKD
March 27 - Shanghai - MAO, RMB100 (door), 70 (pre-sale), 50 (student)
March 28 - Hangzhou - JZ Club (Free entrance)
March 31 - Wuhan - VOX, RMB 50
April 1 - Qingdao - Qingdao Concert Hall, RMB 50
April 2 - Tianjin - Tianjin Concert Hall, RMB 150 / 100
April 3 - Beijing - Star Live, RMB100 (door), 70 (pre-sale), 50(student)
